This may be a step towards the right direction for Blu Ray-deprived Mac users out there. Albeit just a tip from insiders, Blu-ray support for the upcoming iTunes 9 sounds like really great news for Mac users out there. I found this:
We’ve just received a tip from a pretty reliable source that detailed for us some of iTunes 9’s upcoming features and they’re pretty exciting. One of the new additions to iTunes is said to include Blu-ray support which lines up nicely with a recent Apple Insider report about Apple integrating Blu-ray into their new iMac line-up. Something else that will most likely make a bunch of people happy is that we’ve been told iTunes 9 will finally include the ability to visually organize and arrange your iPhone and iPod touch applications.

Blu-Ray support for iTunes means ability for Mac users to burn high definition video to Blu-Ray optical media such as BD-R and BD-RE. Does this signal that a Mac unit with a Blu-Ray drive is in the works?
With Apple still reportedly firm on its decision on Blu-Ray optical drives, it would seem that an external Blu-Ray burner is still the most logical choice for a current gen Mac user. Watch this space as we continue to update you on the latest issues regarding Blu-Ray drives for Mac.

I just upgraded to iTunes 9, new layout on the Apple Store – lots of HD movies and TV content. iTunes9 also uses Safari 4.0 for the Apple Store. I haven’t tried burning a DVD off of iTunes, and now it seems I’ll be jumping straight to Blu-ray burning bur first I’ll need to get me an external USB Blu-ray burner.

Too bad your Mac Pro doesn’t have Blu-Ray. I wonder what Steve Jobs got against it?
If this trend with Macs continues, then Mac users like you would continue to go 3rd party on Blu-Ray burners for Macs.
Keep hoping, though. Maybe this “bag of hurt” will finally convince Jobs of its undeniable potential.
