At last, some good news on the tech front for Mac users. Fancy some quad-core processor goodness for your high-end Mac? Well, this should be great news for you. Found this at ITProPortal.com:
Apple could be on the way to release a couple of new MacBook Pro laptops according to two configuration files in the latest build of OS X, version 10.6.2, that carry the references MacBook Pro 6.1 and the MacBook Pro 6.1b.

If you read the whole of the article, the plan seems to be on putting those vaunted Intel i7 quad core procs on these babies. Not a bad thing at all, considering the Intel i7 is top dog right now when it comes to performance. Mac lovers could need a bit of good news – we told you about Apple still not going with Blu-Ray for iMacs here, and some optical drive trouble for MacBooks here.
A bit more sketchy is the report that Mac will go with ATI/AMD mobile graphics than going with longtime partner nVidia. Apple and nVidia’s troubles are well documented, sprouting from the nVidia 8400M and 8600M graphics chips that were very problematic for MacBooks. Should Apple go with ATI, it would mean another kick in the gut for nVidia, who are already reeling from ATI’s growth due to the successful release of their HD5000 series of graphics cards.
All in all, this is good news for Mac lovers, might even gloss over the fact that Cupertino may never put a Blu-Ray drive in one of these babies.
And so MacPCWiz recommends here list of qualified external USB Blu-Ray drives for your MacBooks.

I want one! A quad core MacBook Pro? That is insane!
You should talk to “The Wiz” man, our resident Mac user. He’s already salivating just on the idea of it.
Of course he still totes around his USB Blu-Ray burner with him and grumbles from time to time about Steve Jobs being an id…. errr… that Steve Jobs should reconsider his position on all things Blu-Ray. Still, I agree — not a bad upgrade option at all.
