Data Security for Mobile devices

For people on the go, those who live a mobile lifestyle, portability is the name of the game. If you live a mobile lifestyle, then you think small, you think portable, you think lightweight. Unfortunately, the smaller they are, the less data they carry (relatively).

Living the Mobile Lifestyle: you portable much?

MacPCWiz now brings you 2 important things to remember for data security while on the go. It’s pretty simple, actually.

#1 – Get an External Data Storage device

Data security means this — keeping all your important data secure and available. 1) The termĀ  secure always means “redundancy” and “off system”. Redundancy refers to copies — making copies of your data makes gives you security in that if one set is somehow deleted or corrupted, you have copies of those somewhere available to you. Availability refers to being able to use those copies of your data, anywhere and anytime you need it.

Solution — get and external storage device. For netbooks, an external DVD burner should be a great move, allowing you functionality and data burning capabilities. Another great idea would be a portable hard drive. Depending on the size of your external hard drive, this allows you to copy large amounts of data off your system, but readily available to you if in any situation you may need it. For large quantities of data, an external Blu-ray burner may be the solution.

#2 – Back up your data regularly

Most people either don’t see the importance of this, or they are just too lazy to do it. Experience around computer systems and devices has shown us, those who back up regularly are the ones who do not end up shouting or screaming when their system crashes. If you are new to this, we suggest that you make a habit out of it.

Our mantra is actually, “If you can’t afford to lose it, then store it somewhere else, as soon as possible.” For really important stuff, those things get saved directly to an external hard drive, no exceptions. That has saved this tech geek from insanity and pulling of hair and screaming like a madman when operating systems go crazy for unexplainable reasons.

Take our word for it, MacPCWiz people have been there, and done that.
