DIGISTOR External USB Blu-ray Burner on a MacBook Pro

All you Mac lovers out there are probably getting a bit lonely out there, what with all the bad iPad press you’re getting. So we’re gonna show you some love as we test out our newly unboxed DIGISTOR Self-Powered Blu-ray Burner on a MacBook Pro.

Let’s get the good news out of the way first — everything works!

We connected the DIGISTOR External Blu-Ray Burner to the MacBook Pro — with OS X 10.5.8 –  via the USB port and we were good to go. The external drive was immediately detected, and so was the BD-R disc inside it. Incidentally, that disc was also a DIGISTOR 25GB BD-R Media that we used to back-up our stock videos from the handy camcorder. See the image below where the data is immediately detected.

This means 2 things for us, and yes, they’re all good: 1) the DIGISTOR USB Blu-ray Drive is immediately detected and natively supported by the Mac OS X as a plug-and-play device, and 2) the data was burned on a Windows PC, so no file system problems on the BD-R disc so far.

When we did try to put in a blank DIGISTOR BD-R disc, this was what we got:

This again means that BD-R data burning is natively supported in Mac OS X. Which leads us to the question of why Steve Jobs is still resisting Blu-Ray in Macs. I mean, dude, what’s the point? But I digress.

We went on to burn some data, which looked like this:

All in all, the DIGISTOR USB External Blu-Ray Burner drive proves itself Mac-worthy, as the Mac OS X accepts it and supports its functions natively. A side note though, Mac OS X still doesn’t support Blu-ray movies (BDAV), so don’t expect to watch your Iron Man blu-ray disc on there. And Blu-ray movie authoring still requires a 3rd party application. Other than that, Blu-ray data archiving is possible on the Mac, and DIGISTOR‘s got the goods on that. Use it for something as trivial as playing your Beatles albums on DVD, or for something as utilitarian as Blu-ray data output and archiving for your wedding video business.
