And just a day after our No-Blu Ray-for-iMacs article (and posting their record revenues and profits), the Apple mothership quietly announces their iMac refresh - 2 new iMac models plus a new MacBook a mere 2 days (well, 1 day for some, depending on time zones) before Microsoft's Windows 7 launch. Intentional? We'll let you make up your mind about that. Meanwhile, onto the new models -- we are a tech website first and foremost, tech industry scandalous rumors run a far second in our list of priorities.

In a possible gigantic "oh no!" moment for Mac users, MacNN.com reports that the possibility of having "custom built" Blu ray-capable iMacs may have been a last minute "no go" on the upcoming iMac refresh.Blu-ray drives were pulled as an option for upcoming iMacs with little time to spare, anonymous sources claim. People described only as "close" to Apple say that Blu-ray support was originally anticipated for a near-future iMac refresh, but that it was nixed just before the computers went into production last month. Regardless, buyers would only have been able to get a Blu-ray drive as part of a custom order.

Apple as early as this month will begin to fill out its 2009 Mac product line with a new family of iMacs sporting classier enclosures and a few added bells and whistles. The new all-in-one, dual-core desktops were finalized earlier in September and have been rolling off the Mac maker's Taiwanese product lines for roughly two weeks. In addition to more affordable pricing, the systems are expected to come clad in a thinner industrial design.
