Plextor PX-B940SA gives 12X Blu-Ray burning

Plextor jumps into the world of 12x Blu-Ray burning with its new PX-B940SA 12x Blu-ray Writer.The PX-B940SA not only uses the latest Blu-ray technology, but also a dual-layer DVD-ROM that combines multiple formats – DVD R/RW and RAM – into one. It accepts disk of 8cm and 12cm (in horizontal position) and has an 8MB buffer, to ensure continuity of data.

Toshiba goes Blu-Ray with new Qosmio

Toshiba announced the newest Qosmio model today, the X500 series, and the most notable new feature is the overdue, inevitable inclusion of a Blu-Ray drive or burner–Toshiba’s first. (The one-time proponent of HD-DVD formally announced it was getting into the Blu-Ray game last month.) The X500 also has an Intel Core i7 processor, 6GB of DDR3 RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 graphics with a gigabyte of DDR5 memory, HDMI, Harmon/Kardon sound, and room for two hard drives (one of which can be a solid-state disk). Sharp Blu-Ray breakthrough: Triple layer and Quad layer burning

Sharp has announced that it’s now capable of building a blue-violet laser that’s capable of writing triple and quadruple-layer Blu-ray (BD) discs at up to 8x. This would probably make a case for those people who want to back-up exclusively to Blu-Ray discs. As of the moment, people are still hampered by the 25GB and 50GB limits of Blu-Ray.
