Like a monkey you just can’t get off your back, Microsoft is faced with an issue that just won’t go away — Blu-Ray for the Xbox 360 console. Over and over, it has said “No, we’re not gonna have that”, but over and over these rumors refuse to go away. Is it because of a Blu-Ray capable competitor in the form of the PlayStation3? Maybe. Take a look-see, this is from Engadget.com:
A recent Gizmodo sit down with Steve Ballmer led with a headline exclaiming a Blu-ray add-on for Xbox was coming. See, when Ballmer was asked about making the Xbox a home theater companion of choice and where Blu-ray might fit in, the Windows 7 wild man said, “Well I don’t know if we need to put Blu-ray in there — you’ll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories.”
Here’s the full article at Engadget.com.
So is Mr. Ballmer saying we can get USB Blu-Ray drives as accessories for our Xbox 360‘s? How does this compute with the categorical denials here, here, and here that Blu-Ray is not going to be a focus on Microsoft’s gaming console?
C’mon, you guys. Get it together. It’s bad enough that Cupertino can’t get the cojones to pony up and give Blu-Ray support for Steve Jobs fanboys. While Mac lovers still have to get for themselves an external Blu-Ray drive, you guys clearly have very high regard and support for the Blu-Ray format, starting from (recently buried) Vista up to Windows 7. If you clearly are not confused about this, where oh where are all these rumors coming from?
