Plextor jumps into the world of 12x Blu-Ray burning with its new PX-B940SA 12x Blu-ray Writer.The PX-B940SA not only uses the latest Blu-ray technology, but also a dual-layer DVD-ROM that combines multiple formats – DVD R/RW and RAM – into one. Pioneer presents the BDR-S05J, the first 12X Blu-ray burner. The device supports up to 12x recording on BD-R discs and BD-RE. DVD-RAM and CD-R/RW are also supported.The Pioneer BDR-S05J-BK has 4MB buffer memory and uses SATA interface. Sharp has announced that it’s now capable of building a blue-violet laser that’s capable of writing triple and quadruple-layer Blu-ray (BD) discs at up to 8x. This would probably make a case for those people who want to back-up exclusively to Blu-Ray discs. As of the moment, people are still hampered by the 25GB and 50GB limits of Blu-Ray.
