YouTube goes 1080p full HD

Everybody’s favorite video streaming and video upload destination YouTube is set to go full HD, that means putting all HD videos on 1080p resolution. Currently, all vids marked HD on YouTube are at 720p, still HD but the lowest you can possibly go to still be in the vicinity of high definition. Check out the article at BusinessInsider.com:

YouTube announced on its blog yesterday that beginning next week it will support full 1080p HD videos, up from its current maximum of 720p.

Videos already uploaded in 1080p, currently displayed in 720p, are being re-encoded by YouTube to take advantage of the new maximum.

We all know that Google is putting all of its strength behind its “cloud” mechanisms to date — Android OS for mobile devices, Chrome OS for netbooks (launch is very, very soon, we hear), the Google Chrome browser, and now YouTube. The upgrade is the latest attempt from YouTube, and indeed Google, to increase the quality of its videos and bolster the strength of its network.

YouTube  will make the update live this week, and as of the moment are re-encoding the 720p videos to the newer format.

What does this mean for you, MacPCWiz reader? Well, it means better quality on the videos for sure. Those who have fetishes for 1080p videos can now view (and download, if you know how) from YouTube with impunity. You will need that extra bandwith for sure, and this probably means more loading minutes for those who have just average bandwith and still want to view in 1080p.

For avid collectors of YouTube videos, you can now collect them in true high definition, and burn them to your Blu-Ray discs (on your BluRay drives, of course). Blu-Ray is the current optical media standard for high definition video, and here’s one external Blu-ray drive that we do recommend.

Oh you need an internal Blu-Ray drive? Check out all our Blue-ray options, all for HD videos.
