Just this for now, but check out our “how to: Windows 7 installation” article here.

Are getting your copy of the newest Windows OS now? Tell us your stories when you can. As far as we know, Windows 7 is already the “biggest pre-order product of all time” from Amazon UK.

Windows 7 has beaten boy wizard Harry Potter to become the biggest pre-order product of all time in the UK, says Amazon.

The UK arm of the retail behemoth adds that the new operating system sold more copies in the first eight hours of its release in July than Vista did in its entire pre-order period. The new OS launches officially tomorrow (October 22).

  • So how did the launch of Windows 7 go? Any substantial reports yet on stability and performance of the vaunted new Windows operating system? Should we upgrade to it? Is it native 64bit all the way through? Are the Brits happy they pre-ordered Windows 7? hahaha.

    • Well, Microsoft certainly had fun. They had big launch parties all over the US, most of their bigwigs were “distributed” to grace parties all over.

Jury is still out whether it is the best of the best, but signs are looking good. They had the biggest open beta for a Microsoft operating system, and the feedback is encouraging. Most businesses and conservatives will say, wait for Service Pack 1 before upgrading.

We here at MacPCWiz will say, upgrade without trepidation. You will be surprised that “it just works” after your install. As for being natively 64-bit, yes the OS was designed primarily for 64bit, but there are 32-bit versions of it as well.

UK had a very big contingent for the beta, and yes, they’ll tell you “Bloody mah-velous, this Windows 7.”
So yes, go give it a try. You can even grab an external DVD drive for your netbook and install it on there, chances are your netbook can hack it. Ain’t that just cool, a netbook on Windows 7?
