Windows 7 Professional for less than $50

For the want of getting the newest OS out of Redmond — Windows 7 to you — some people may have resorted to illegal means. But worry not — if you are in the US and you are a college student, you can get Microsoft‘s Windows 7 Home Premium as an electronic download for $29.99. No, we are NOT kidding you. Read here from the Examiner.com:

Though I’ve already ordered the full blown version of Windows 7 Enterprise for my work PC, it’s still great to be a student. That’s because Microsoft has offered a sweet deal for registered US college students. Students can purchase Windows 7 Home Premium as an electronic download for $29.99. And since it’s a download, in many states there is no tax and, of course, no shipping charges either.

Thanks to a reader who pointed me to win741.com, I was able to purchase Windows 7 Home Premium for the PC that is primarily used for my course work at City College of San Francisco. (Microsoft wasn’t especially helpful to me in helping find this site. So if you are a qualified US student, you might want to bookmark win741.com in your browser. This affiliated site is the place where you can qualify and order the student priced version of Windows 7.)

Pretty sweet deal, eh? Especially if you know what Windows 7 brings to the table — new User Interface features, native Blu-Ray compatibility, it’s an all new OS — you can’t help but whistle at the $30 price. What’s more, there’s what you would call a surprising bonus here. Microsoft offers a Disk Kit — this is an optional DVD containing a backup copy of Windows 7. Very handy if you lose your download or if the file gets corrupted or deleted somehow. Microsoft mails to students who order the Windows 7 Home Premium a DVD Disc Kit backup for only $13 extra plus tax. (!!!) I couldn’t believe it, either. Go to Win741.com now. We don’t know how long this offer will last.

True, you could just burn the downloaded image to DVD and be done with it, but the fortunate thing about it is that Microsoft’s Disk Kit offer doesn’t restrain you from getting a different version than the Windows 7 that you downloaded. You can actually order, say, the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade. Now, all you need to do is leave the downloaded install files alone, wait patiently for your DVD Disk Kit to arrive in the mail, and there you have it — badabing, badaboom — a full-blown version of Windows 7 Professional for less than $50. Isn’t that great or what?

Now you get to spend all that money you saved from this deal to buy cool portable student stuff, like an external Blu-Ray burner, blank Blu-Ray discs for backup, or if you don’t want to go Blue-Ray yet, you can get a USB DVD drive. Don’t thank us, we at MacPCWiz are always on a lookout for cool deals for you.
