If there are characteristics that should be expected from a netbook — to be lightning FAST is not one of them. A netbook is portable, trendy, affordable, mobile, light, and undeniably cute. So if what we hear about the ASUS Eee PC 1201N is all true, that is not such a bad thing at all. If this netbook is the fastest among all its competitors at the moment, that is one heck of a selling proposition. Read this at LaptopMag.com:
ASUS, the same company that brought you the original Eee PC 701, has broken another barrier by releasing the first dual core netbook on the block, the Eee PC 1201N. Featuring a 1.6-GHz Atom N330 dual core CPU that has previously been featured only in low-power desktops, along with discrete Nvidia Ion graphics, 2GB of RAM, and a generous 12.1-inch display, the 1201N is the fastest netbook we’ve ever reviewed.

The ASUS Eee PC 1201N
Sporting on of those newfangled dual core Intel Atom processors, you can bet that this tiny monster has juice to burn. And the nVidia ION graphics that we talked about before is living up to the promise — it gives these new netbooks graphics headroom that those Intel integrated chips just can’t provide — and in Full HD as well, which is not bad at all. The 2GB RAM is pure vanilla (read: the best that can be expected), and the hard drive space is standard for a netbook. But ASUS has once again proven that as with all the chart-topping Eee netbooks that they have released, they may have written the book on the netbook game.
Main issues with netbooks, and not just with this one in particular, will be storage functionality — broken down to two issues: 1)Standard HDD space in a netbook is now plateau-ing at around 250GB. Space, weight, and heat concerns will probably keep it at that level for a while. 2)The lack of optical drives is the other.
As there is no compromise on this in the horizon, 2 solutions are recommended. 1)Get an external DVD burner for added optical media functionality. A USB DVD burner will allow you to burn and read DVDs, adding functionality to an already feature-packed netbook. 2)Data backup needs will require an external hard drive. At the rate we create, edit, and download data — 250GB internal storage is not gonna cut it. A USB portable hard drive should do the trick. MacPCWiz out.
