Lenovo positions the ThinkPad X100e as an “entry level ultraportable”. Netbook shnetbook. We don’t really see the difference guys. It’s small, its powered by a low-power AMD processor, it’s got an 11-inch display. Who else here agrees with them that it’s NOT a netbook? Sheesh. We found this at Softpedia.com:
Earlier this month, we got word of a new Lenovo ThinkPad system that was previously rumored to be released in the early days of next year. Said to be part of the company’s new wave of netbook systems, the ThinkPad X100e was reportedly built on AMD’s Athlon Neo platform, offering an alternative to the Intel Atom-based netbooks available on the market. Alright, so the 11-inch display is slight larger than your regular fare netbook. And it’s got a 320GB HDD, larger than normal netbooks. And it’s sporting a RS780 chipset — that’s HD 3200 video to you. And the display’s HD-capable as well. And other bells and whistles. So, wait. Maybe it’s not a netbook after all. But heck, it looks like a netbook, don’t it?
This ultraportable (ok, we give in) has real potential, given the HD video capability. It just might be Blu-Ray capable, in that we might be able to connect a USB Blu-Ray drive and try a Blu-ray disc, a movie one, that is. If so, how great would it be to be able to bring along your BD movie discs on long trips and play it on this baby, eh? MacPCWiz says “Hmmm, interesting.”
