Ok, away from the iPad for a bit, and on to what might serve as Apple‘s competition for their newest baby. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, was holding a tablet thingy in his CES 2010 keynote, and it apparently was the HP Slate, the iPad killer. This might, or might not, be the tablet you’re all waiting for. But make no mistake about it, it is Windows 7-powered.

Unlike the iPad, there is very little info in the way of specs and features for the HP Slate. But that doesn’t stop us from inferring (and liking) the fact that multitasking may actually be possible (imagine that…), since it is a Windows machine. HP is really hyping on this “rich media experience” concept, and from one of the videos on YouTube, they sort of confirmed that it has Flash — one of the major things lacking in Apple’s tablet. Look:
That right there, people, is Hulu on the HP Slate, and therefore Flash! Yey!
Might this actually be better than the iPad?
No info on tech specs yet, and frankly, we like it that the HP people are keeping that info off the net for the moment — this competition with the “Max-iPad” is gonna be giganti-normous. But we’re really interested if this little baby can accessorize as well — will there be USB ports for our external hard drives, flash drives and external DVD burners? Will the display be HD-capable, for our Blu-ray discs?
HP says the Slate is coming out in 2010, so good on you, HP guys. We’ll be waiting.

HP slate dead on the water before its release.. HP are always cheap plastic, low quality hardware. iPad killer? nah! iPad victim!
I have an HP Tablet Laptop. It isn’t cheap, it’s reliable as hell. I hope their slate is the same.
